Foundation Consolidation is the use of geosynthetic drainage materials to accelerate the consolidation of soft foundation soils.

Drainage is the natural or artificial removal of surface and sub-surface water from an area. Drainage systems that incorporate geotextile filters retain and prevent fine grains of soil from passing into, and potentially clogging the drainage system.
